Gather the door, hinges, screws, screwdriver, chisel, hammer, pencil, and measuring tape
Mark the hinge locations on the door and the frame
Place each hinge on the marked spots and trace the outline
Chisel out shallow mortises for the hinge plates on the door and frame
Position the hinges in the mortises and align them flush
Pre-drill screw holes to prevent splitting
Attach the hinges to the door first with screws
Align the door with the frame and secure the hinges to the frame
Check that the door opens and closes smoothly
Tighten all screws and make any final adjustments
