How to Jump Start a Starter?

Make sure the vehicle is in park or neutral and the ignition is off

Set the parking brake

Put on safety glasses and gloves if available

Locate the battery and identify the positive and negative terminals

Use a jumper pack or another vehicle with a good battery

Connect the red clamp to the dead battery’s positive terminal

Connect the other red clamp to the good battery’s positive terminal or jumper pack positive terminal

Connect the black clamp to the good battery’s negative terminal or jumper pack negative terminal

Connect the other black clamp to an unpainted metal ground on the engine or frame away from the battery

Start the assisting vehicle if using one

Turn the ignition key to start the vehicle with the dead starter

If it starts, let it run for several minutes

Remove the jumper cables in reverse order

Keep hands, tools, and clothing away from moving parts

If the starter still does not work, check the battery, cables, fuses, and starter connections

Seek professional help if the vehicle still will not start
