Check the expiration or sell-by date
Look for cracks, slime, or powdery residue on the shell
Smell the egg after cracking it open
Discard it if it has a sulfur-like or rotten odor
Check for unusual discoloration in the egg white or yolk
Place the egg in water; if it floats, it is likely bad
If the egg white is very runny or the yolk breaks easily, it may be old
If anything looks or smells off, throw it away
