How to Lattice a Pie?

Roll out the bottom pie crust and place it in the pie dish

Add the filling and chill if needed

Roll out the top crust into a circle or rectangle

Cut the top crust into even strips

Lay half the strips across the pie in one direction

Fold back every other strip halfway

Place one strip perpendicular to the first set

Unfold the folded strips over the new strip

Fold back the alternating strips

Place another perpendicular strip

Repeat until the lattice is complete

Trim the excess dough around the edges

Fold the bottom crust over the strip ends

Crimp the edges to seal

Brush with egg wash or milk if desired

Sprinkle with sugar if desired

Bake according to the pie recipe
