Acclimate the hardwood planks in the room for the manufacturer-recommended time
Remove baseboards, trim, and existing flooring if needed
Clean the subfloor thoroughly and make sure it is dry, flat, and structurally sound
Repair any damaged subfloor areas
Check moisture levels in the subfloor and hardwood
Install underlayment or moisture barrier if required
Plan the layout and decide the starting wall and plank direction
Measure the room and snap chalk lines for alignment
Cut door casings and trim so flooring can slide underneath
Install the first row with the tongue or groove facing the correct direction
Leave the required expansion gap around all walls and fixed objects
Secure planks using the proper method for your floor type
Stagger end joints between rows
Tap boards tightly together without damaging the edges
Cut planks to fit around vents, corners, and obstacles
Continue laying rows across the room
Use a pull bar or tapping block where needed
Install the final row and trim boards to fit
Reinstall baseboards and trim without pinning the floor down
Fill nail holes or touch up as needed
Clean the floor and inspect for gaps, squeaks, or loose boards
