Turn the gas control knob to the OFF position
Wait 5 minutes to let any gas dissipate
Check for any gas smell before proceeding
Set the control knob to PILOT
Press and hold the control knob down
Use the igniter button or a long lighter to light the pilot
Keep holding the control knob for 30 to 60 seconds after the pilot lights
Release the control knob and confirm the pilot stays lit
Turn the control knob to ON
Set the thermostat to the desired temperature
Replace the access panel
If the pilot will not stay lit or you smell gas, turn the gas off and call a professional
