How to Light a Kerosene Heater?

Read the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific heater

Place the heater on a level, stable, nonflammable surface

Move the heater away from curtains, furniture, paper, and other combustibles

Ensure the room is well ventilated

Check that the heater is cool before refueling

Fill the tank with the correct type of kerosene only

Wipe up any spilled fuel before lighting

Install the wick properly if your heater uses one

Raise the wick to the recommended starting height if applicable

Open the ignition access or lighting chamber

Use the built-in igniter if available

If required, use a long match or long lighter to light the wick

Close the ignition access after the flame is established

Adjust the flame to the recommended level

Monitor the heater closely during startup

Turn the heater off immediately if you smell fuel strongly or see abnormal flames
