Scrape off large food scraps from dishes
Rinse only if your dishwasher manual recommends it
Load plates and larger items on the bottom rack
Place bowls, cups, and glasses on the top rack
Angle items downward so water can drain
Put pots, pans, and heavily soiled items on the bottom rack
Keep plastic items on the top rack if they are dishwasher-safe
Face dirty surfaces toward the spray arms
Do not block the spray arms
Leave space between items for water to circulate
Place utensils in the utensil basket with handles down, except sharp knives
Separate forks, spoons, and knives to prevent nesting
Put sharp knives in a safe position with blades down if the rack allows
Secure lightweight items so they do not flip over
Avoid overcrowding the dishwasher
Add dishwasher detergent to the detergent compartment
Select the appropriate wash cycle
Close the door firmly before starting the cycle
