Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C)
Wash and scrub the sweet potato
Pat the sweet potato dry
Pierce the sweet potato several times with a fork
Place the sweet potato on a baking sheet or directly on the oven rack
Bake for 45 to 60 minutes, depending on size
Check for doneness by inserting a fork or knife into the center
Remove from the oven
Let it cool for a few minutes
Slice open and serve
