Gather cardstock or sturdy paper, scissors, ruler, pencil, glue or tape, and optional ribbon or decorations
Choose the size of the box you want to make
Draw a square or rectangular template with equal side panels and tabs for folding
Add fold lines around the base and side panels
Cut out the template carefully
Score the fold lines lightly with a ruler or blunt edge
Fold along all scored lines
Apply glue or tape to the tabs
Attach the side panels to form the box shape
Fold and secure the bottom flaps
Make a separate lid using a slightly larger template if needed
Fold and assemble the lid the same way
Place the gift inside the box
Close the box and decorate it with ribbon, stickers, or wrapping paper
