Measure the space where the planter box will go
Decide the planter box size and shape
Choose weather-resistant wood or another suitable material
Gather materials: boards, screws, drill, saw, measuring tape, sandpaper, and optional liner
Cut the boards to the desired dimensions
Sand the edges and surfaces
Assemble the side panels with screws
Attach the side panels to form the box
Add bottom slats or a solid base with drainage holes
Line the inside with landscape fabric or plastic if needed
Drill drainage holes if the bottom is solid
Seal or paint the exterior with a non-toxic outdoor finish
Fill the box with soil
Plant flowers, herbs, or vegetables
Place the planter box in the desired location
