Use a 24-card deck: 9, 10, J, Q, K, A of each suit
Play with 4 players in 2 teams of 2, partners sitting opposite each other
Deal 5 cards to each player
Turn the next card face up to start the trump decision
Starting with the player left of the dealer, each player may order up the turned-up suit as trump or pass
If someone orders it up, the dealer takes the face-up card and discards one card
If all players pass, there is a second round to choose a different trump suit
If all players pass again, the hand is redealt
The dealer’s team can be “stuck” with trump if no one else chooses
The suit chosen as trump becomes the highest-ranking suit
In trump, the ranking is J of trump, J of same-color suit, A, K, Q, 10, 9
In non-trump suits, the ranking is A, K, Q, J, 10, 9
The J of the trump suit is the right bower
The J of the same-color suit is the left bower and counts as trump
The player to the dealer’s left leads the first trick
Players must follow suit if possible
If unable to follow suit, a player may play any card
The highest card of the suit led wins the trick unless trump is played
Any trump card beats any non-trump card
If multiple trump cards are played, the highest trump wins
The winner of a trick leads the next trick
Play continues until all 5 tricks are played
The team that called trump must take at least 3 tricks to score
If the calling team takes 3 or 4 tricks, it scores 1 point
If the calling team takes all 5 tricks, it scores 2 points
If the calling team fails to take 3 tricks, it is euchred and the other team scores 2 points
If a player goes alone, their partner sits out for that hand
A lone player who takes 3 or 4 tricks scores 1 point
A lone player who takes all 5 tricks scores 4 points
The first team to reach 10 points wins the game
