Use a standard 52-card deck
Deal 13 cards to each player
Set aside the remaining 26 cards as a stock
Decide whether to use a kitty or draw system before play begins
Choose who leads first, usually the player to the dealer’s left or by agreement
Spades are always trump
Follow suit if possible
If you cannot follow suit, you may play any card, including a spade
Spades cannot be led until they have been broken, unless a player has only spades
The highest card of the suit led wins the trick unless a spade is played, in which case the highest spade wins
The winner of a trick leads the next trick
Count each spade as trump over any non-spade card
Keep track of tricks won by each player
Score one point for each trick bid and won
Score 10 points for each overtrick
Lose 10 points for each undertrick
Set bids before each hand
Use the agreed 2-handed bidding method, such as bidding on total tricks or using a dummy/stock draw system
Play until the agreed target score is reached
The player with the higher score at the end wins
