How to Play Cribbage with 2 Players?

Use a standard 52-card deck

Each player uses a cribbage board and pegs

Deal 6 cards to each player

Each player discards 2 cards face down to form the crib

The non-dealer cuts the deck

Turn the top cut card face up; this is the starter

If the starter is a Jack, the dealer scores 2 points for “his heels”

Players take turns playing one card at a time

Keep a running total of card values played

Face cards count as 10

Aces count as 1

Number cards count as their face value

Do not play a card that makes the total go over 31

Score points during play for 15, 31, pairs, triples, quads, and runs

Score 2 points for making exactly 15

Score 2 points for making exactly 31

Score 2 points for a pair

Score 6 points for three of a kind

Score 12 points for four of a kind

Score runs based on consecutive cards played

If a player cannot play without going over 31, say “go”

The other player may continue playing if able

When both players cannot play, reset the count to 0

The last player to play scores 1 point if the count did not reach 31

The last player to play scores 2 points if the count reached exactly 31

After all cards are played, each player scores their hand

The dealer also scores the crib

Use the starter card in both hands and the crib

Score hands for pairs, runs, flushes, 15s, and nobs

Score 2 points for a Jack matching the starter’s suit in hand

Score the crib the same way, with the dealer receiving all crib points

Alternate the dealer each round

First player to reach 121 points wins
