Choose a fresh, mature aloe vera leaf
Wash the leaf thoroughly
Place the leaf upright in a bowl for 10 to 15 minutes to drain the yellow latex
Rinse the leaf again
Trim off the thorny edges
Cut off the base and tip
Slice the leaf lengthwise
Scoop out the clear gel with a spoon
Transfer the gel into a clean bowl
Blend the gel until smooth
Add a few drops of vitamin E oil or a small amount of lemon juice if desired
Store the gel in a clean airtight container
Refrigerate and use within 1 to 2 weeks
