Measure 1 cup basmati rice
Rinse the rice 3 to 4 times until the water runs clear
Soak the rice in water for 20 to 30 minutes
Drain the rice well
Add the rice to the rice cooker
Add 1.25 to 1.5 cups water for every 1 cup rice
Add salt if desired
Add 1 teaspoon oil or butter if desired
Close the lid and start the rice cooker
Let the rice rest for 5 to 10 minutes after cooking
Fluff the rice gently with a fork
Serve warm
