Chill a mixing bowl and beaters for 10 to 15 minutes
Pour 1 cup cold heavy whipping cream into the bowl
Add 2 to 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Beat on medium-high speed until soft peaks form
Beat a little longer until stiff peaks form
Stop mixing before it turns grainy or separates
Use immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve
