2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

3 tablespoons lard, shortening, or butter

3/4 cup warm water

Mix flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl

Add lard, shortening, or butter

Rub or cut it into the flour until crumbly

Add warm water gradually

Stir until a dough forms

Knead the dough for 2 to 3 minutes until smooth

Cover and rest the dough for 20 to 30 minutes

Divide the dough into small balls

Roll each ball into a thin circle

Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat

Cook each tortilla for 30 to 60 seconds per side

Flip when bubbles form and light brown spots appear

Keep cooked tortillas wrapped in a clean towel

Serve warm
