Join the chain into a ring with a slip stitch

Work 2 double crochets into the ring
Chain 2
Work 3 double crochets into the ring
Repeat the sequence of 3 double crochets and 2 chains three more times
Join with a slip stitch to the top of the starting chain 3
Slip stitch into the next space if needed
Chain 3
Work 2 double crochets into the same space
Chain 2
Work 3 double crochets into the same space
In each corner space, work 3 double crochets, chain 2, 3 double crochets
In each side space, work 3 double crochets
Join each round with a slip stitch
Change colors at the end of a round if desired
Continue adding rounds until the square reaches the desired size
Fasten off the yarn
Weave in the ends
