Add oats and water or milk to a microwave-safe bowl
Use about 1 part oats to 2 parts liquid
Stir to combine
Microwave on high for 1 to 3 minutes
Stop and stir halfway through
Watch carefully to prevent overflow
Remove carefully, as the bowl may be hot
Stir again
Add more liquid if needed
Add toppings such as fruit, nuts, honey, or cinnamon
