How To Make Pea Soup?

Rinse 1 pound dried split peas

Heat 1 tablespoon oil or butter in a large pot

Add 1 chopped onion, 2 chopped carrots, and 2 chopped celery stalks

Cook until softened

Add 2 minced garlic cloves

Stir for 1 minute

Add the split peas

Add 8 cups water or broth

Add 1 bay leaf

Add salt and black pepper

Add optional ham, bacon, or smoked turkey

Bring to a boil

Reduce to a simmer

Cover partially and cook for 60 to 90 minutes

Stir occasionally

Cook until the peas are soft and the soup is thick

Remove the bay leaf

Adjust seasoning

Add more broth or water if needed

Serve hot
