Choose a pork shoulder or pork butt, about 3 to 5 pounds
Trim excess fat if needed
Mix salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and brown sugar
Rub the seasoning all over the pork
Place sliced onions in the bottom of the crock pot
Put the pork on top of the onions
Add barbecue sauce, broth, apple cider vinegar, or a mix of these
Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 5 to 6 hours
Cook until the pork is very tender and shreds easily
Remove the pork from the crock pot
Shred the pork with two forks
Discard excess fat
Return the shredded pork to the crock pot
Mix the pork with the cooking juices and more barbecue sauce if desired
Serve on buns, tacos, rice, or as desired
