Choose a pair of jeans you want to distress
Wash and dry the jeans first
Put the jeans on and mark the areas you want ripped
Use chalk, a fabric marker, or pins to mark the spots
Lay the jeans flat on a hard surface
Place cardboard inside the leg to protect the back side
Use scissors, a razor, or a box cutter to make small horizontal cuts
Cut only the top layer if you want frayed openings
Use tweezers to pull out vertical threads for a distressed look
Rub the cut areas with sandpaper or a pumice stone
Wash the jeans to fray the edges more
Trim any loose threads if needed
Repeat on other areas until you get the desired look
