Boil fresh water in a kettle or pot
Measure tea leaves or tea bags (about 1 tsp leaves per 8 oz / 240 ml, or 1 tea bag per cup)
Preheat a teapot or cup (optional)
Add tea leaves to a teapot or place tea bag(s) in a cup
Pour hot water over the tea
Steep for:
Black tea: 3–5 minutes
Green tea: 2–3 minutes
Oolong tea: 3–7 minutes
Herbal tea: 5–10 minutes
Remove tea bag(s) or strain out leaves
Add milk and/or sugar if desired (optional)
Serve
