Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a saucepan over medium heat
Whisk in 2 tablespoons flour and cook for 1 minute
Add 2 tablespoons chili powder, 1 teaspoon cumin, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Stir in 2 tablespoons tomato paste
Slowly whisk in 2 cups chicken broth or vegetable broth
Add 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes until thickened
Stir in 1 tablespoon vinegar or lime juice
Taste and adjust seasoning as needed
