1 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
1 to 2 tablespoons vanilla extract or 1 vanilla bean
Combine water and sugar in a saucepan
Heat over medium heat
Stir until the sugar fully dissolves
Remove from heat
Add vanilla extract or scrape in vanilla bean seeds and add the pod
Stir to combine
Let cool completely
Remove the vanilla bean pod if used
Pour into a clean bottle or jar
Store in the refrigerator
