Open the Instagram app
Tap the Messenger icon in the top right
Tap the new message icon
Search for the person’s username or name
Select the person from the results
Type your message in the text box
Tap Send
If you are on their profile, tap Message
Type your message in the text box
Tap Send
If you cannot message them, check whether they allow messages from you or whether your account is restricted
