Wash the potato thoroughly
Pat dry
Poke holes all over the potato with a fork
Rub the skin lightly with oil (optional)
Sprinkle with salt (optional)
Place the potato on a microwave-safe plate
Microwave on high for 5 minutes
Flip the potato
Microwave for another 3 to 5 minutes, depending on size and tenderness
Check doneness by squeezing gently (it should give easily)
Microwave in additional 1-minute intervals if needed
Let rest for 1 to 2 minutes
Cut a slit lengthwise and fluff the inside
Add toppings as desired
