Gather your LLC legal name, address, and responsible party information
Decide whether you need an EIN for tax, banking, hiring, or vendor purposes
Apply online through the IRS EIN Assistant if you have a U.S. SSN, ITIN, or EIN for the responsible party
Apply by fax using IRS Form SS-4
Apply by mail using IRS Form SS-4
Apply by phone if your LLC is formed outside the U.S. and you do not have a legal residence, principal place of business, or office in the U.S.
Complete IRS Form SS-4 with the LLC’s legal name, entity type, formation state, and reason for applying
Enter the responsible party’s name and taxpayer identification number
Submit the application to the IRS
Receive the EIN confirmation letter from the IRS
Use the EIN to open a business bank account, file taxes, and handle payroll if needed
