Remove the foil or capsule covering the cork
Center the corkscrew tip on the middle of the cork
Twist the corkscrew into the cork until most of the spiral is inserted
Keep the corkscrew straight as you turn
Hook or brace the lever against the bottle rim if using a waiter’s corkscrew
Pull up slowly and steadily to lift the cork
Continue until the cork comes out
Remove the cork from the corkscrew if needed
