Read the manufacturer’s manual before use
Wear proper PPE: helmet, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, long pants, and sturdy boots
Inspect the chainsaw before starting
Check chain tension
Check chain sharpness
Check bar oil level
Check fuel level
Check all safety features
Ensure the chain brake works
Start the chainsaw on stable ground
Keep both hands on the saw at all times
Use a firm grip with thumbs wrapped around the handles
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart
Maintain a balanced stance
Keep the chain brake engaged when not cutting
Cut at full throttle
Keep the chain out of contact with the ground
Cut with the lower part of the bar when possible
Avoid cutting with the tip of the bar
Be aware of kickback risk
Never cut above shoulder height
Never operate the saw while tired or impaired
Keep bystanders and pets away
Plan an escape path before cutting
Watch for falling branches and moving logs
Use proper cutting techniques for limbs, trunks, and bucking
Support the wood to prevent pinching
Shut off the saw before moving to a new position
Carry the chainsaw with the engine off and bar pointed backward
Engage the chain brake when carrying the saw
Refuel only when the engine is off and cool
Clean and maintain the saw after use
