Get trained and authorized before operating a forklift
Inspect the forklift before use
Check tires, forks, mast, chains, brakes, steering, horn, lights, and controls
Verify fluid levels and battery or fuel condition
Report any damage or defects before operating
Wear required PPE
Fasten the seat belt
Adjust the seat and mirrors
Know the forklift’s load capacity
Check the load weight and load center
Make sure the load is stable and secure
Approach the load squarely
Insert forks fully under the load
Lift the load only enough to clear the floor
Tilt the mast back slightly when traveling with a load
Keep the load low while moving
Drive at a safe speed
Use the horn at intersections and blind spots
Watch for pedestrians and obstacles
Keep a clear view of the travel path
Travel in reverse if the load blocks your view
Avoid sudden starts, stops, and turns
Do not carry passengers unless the forklift is designed for it
Do not raise or lower the load while moving
Do not exceed the rated capacity
Do not use the forklift on unstable surfaces unless approved
Slow down on ramps and slopes
Keep the load uphill when traveling on inclines
Park only in approved areas
Lower the forks completely when parking
Set the parking brake
Place controls in neutral
Turn off the forklift and remove the key
Chock wheels if required
Refuel or recharge only in designated areas
Follow site-specific safety rules and procedures
