How To Paint A Room?

Choose the right paint type (interior wall, trim, ceiling) and finish (matte/eggshell/satin)

Measure the room to calculate paint quantity (walls + ceiling + trim)

Prepare supplies: paint, primer (if needed), rollers, angled brush, tray/liner, painter’s tape, drop cloths, caulk, spackle, sandpaper, cleaning supplies

Clear the room and protect floors and furniture with drop cloths

Remove outlet/switch covers and hardware; tape off remaining fixtures

Patch holes and imperfections with spackle; let dry

Sand patched areas smooth and wipe dust away

Clean walls to remove grease, dust, and residue

Apply primer where needed (stains, new drywall, heavy patching, glossy surfaces, color changes)

Tape edges, trim, and corners for clean lines

Cut in around edges with a brush (ceiling lines, corners, and along trim)

Roll walls in sections using an even “W” or “M” pattern

Keep a wet edge to avoid lap marks

Apply a second coat after the first coat dries as directed

Touch up missed spots and remove tape carefully while paint is slightly tacky

Reinstall covers and hardware after paint fully cures

Clean brushes and rollers promptly (according to paint type)

Dispose of paint and materials properly
