How To Parallel Park?

Find a parking space with enough length for your vehicle

Signal your intention to park and slow down

Align your vehicle parallel to the car in front of the space

Stop when your front door is even with the rear bumper of the car you’re parking behind

Turn the steering wheel fully toward the curb (away from traffic) and begin backing slowly

Stop backing when your vehicle’s rear corner is even with the rear corner of the car in front

Turn the steering wheel fully the other way (toward the center of the parking space)

Continue backing slowly until your vehicle is at about a 45-degree angle in the space

Straighten the steering wheel as your vehicle becomes parallel to the curb

Adjust forward or backward in small movements to center the car within the space

Stop when you’re about 6–12 inches from the curb

Straighten the wheels

Check mirrors and surroundings before finalizing position

Set the parking brake and shift to park
