Plan the tile layout and measure the shower walls and floor
Gather tile, thin-set mortar, grout, spacers, trowel, level, tile cutter, and waterproofing materials
Prepare the surface by cleaning, repairing, and ensuring it is flat and solid
Install a waterproof backer board or approved shower substrate
Apply waterproofing membrane and seal all seams, corners, and penetrations
Mark level reference lines for the first row of tile
Dry-fit tiles to check layout and adjust cuts
Mix thin-set mortar according to the manufacturer’s instructions
Spread thin-set with a notched trowel on a small section at a time
Press tiles into the mortar with consistent spacing
Insert spacers to maintain even grout joints
Check tiles frequently for level and alignment
Cut tiles as needed for edges, corners, and fixtures
Let the tile set fully before removing spacers
Mix grout and apply it with a grout float
Wipe off excess grout with a damp sponge
Allow grout to cure as directed
Seal grout if required by the grout type
Caulk joints at corners, edges, and around fixtures with silicone caulk
