Use a standard 52-card deck
Assign card values as follows:
Aces count as 11
Kings, queens, and jacks count as 10
Number cards count at face value
The goal is to get a hand total as close to 31 as possible without going over
Each player is dealt 3 cards
Place the remaining cards face down as the draw pile
Turn over the top card of the draw pile to start the discard pile
On your turn, choose one of these actions:
Draw the top card from the draw pile
Take the top card from the discard pile
After drawing, discard one card from your hand face up onto the discard pile
You may keep the same number of cards in hand after each turn
Players may try to collect 3 cards of the same suit for a total of 31
A hand of 31 with 3 cards of the same suit is the best possible hand
If a player has 31, they can usually knock or end the round on their turn
Other players get one final turn after a knock
At the end of the round, each player reveals their hand
The player with the highest total in one suit wins the round
If a player has 31 in one suit, that player wins immediately or at showdown depending on the rules being used
If no one has 31, compare the highest suit total in each hand
The lowest-scoring player loses a life, point, or chip depending on the scoring method
Play multiple rounds until a player reaches the losing limit
The player with the best score at the end wins
