Use a standard 52-card deck
Deal 6 cards to each player
Cut the deck to determine the dealer
The dealer lays out a starter card from the remaining deck, face up, and then both players keep their hand of 6 cards
The non-dealer leads first in the play phase
During play, players alternately lay down one card at a time, face up
Keep a running total of card values during play
Card values in play: A=1, 2–10=face value, J/Q/K=10
When the running total reaches 31 or the player cannot play without exceeding 31, the play resets at 0
After each play hand, players score according to their own 6-card hand plus the starter card
Score at the end of each round using:
Fifteens: combinations of cards totaling 15 (2 points each)
Pairs: any two cards of the same rank (2 points each pair)
Runs: sequences of 3+ consecutive ranks (run length points; if multiple runs occur, score each)
Flush:
4-card flush (4 points) if only one player’s cards match the starter suit
5-card flush (5 points) if all five cards (including starter) are in the same suit for that player
Nobs: a Jack in the player’s hand matching the starter card’s suit (1 point)
The dealer also scores for the “starter” card in their hand during final scoring
Continue rounds until a player reaches 121 points (standard game)
Win when either player reaches 121 or more points first
