How To Prepare For A Mammogram?

Schedule the mammogram for a time when your breasts are least likely to be tender, if possible

Avoid using deodorant, antiperspirant, lotion, powder, or perfume on your underarms and breasts on the day of the exam

Wear a two-piece outfit so you can remove only your top and bra

Bring any prior mammogram images or records if requested

Inform the technologist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have breast implants

Tell the technologist about any breast symptoms, surgeries, or pain

Follow any specific instructions from your healthcare provider or imaging center

Take an over-the-counter pain reliever before the exam only if your doctor says it is okay

Try to relax and avoid scheduling during the most sensitive part of your menstrual cycle if applicable

Arrive on time and be prepared to change into a gown if needed
