Add salt to the liquid
Reduce the heat to low
Slowly whisk in the polenta to prevent lumps
Stir continuously for the first few minutes
Cook, stirring often, until thick and creamy
Add more liquid if needed to reach the desired consistency
Stir in butter, cheese, or other seasonings if desired
Serve hot immediately, or pour into a dish to cool and set
