Use single quotation marks for a quote inside a quote in American English
Example: “She said, ‘I will go tomorrow.’”
Use double quotation marks for a quote inside a quote in British English
Example: ‘She said, “I will go tomorrow.”’
Keep the original punctuation of the quoted material unless your style guide says otherwise
If a quote inside a quote is itself quoted from another source, use alternating quotation marks
If you need to quote a quote from a source, cite the source you are using
If you remove part of the inner quote, use ellipses only where needed
If you change a word in the quote for clarity, put the change in brackets
