Use quotation marks for direct quotes
Include the author’s last name, year, and page number for direct quotes
Example: “Quote” (Smith, 2020, p. 15)
For a quote of 40 words or fewer, keep it in the same paragraph
For a quote of 40 words or more, use a block quote
Start a block quote on a new line
Indent a block quote 0.5 inches from the left margin
Do not use quotation marks for block quotes
Place the citation after the punctuation in a block quote
Use ellipses to show omitted words
Use brackets to add or change words in a quote
Cite the source in the reference list
Match the quote exactly to the original wording
Use page numbers when available
Use paragraph numbers for sources without page numbers
