Apply agricultural lime
Use dolomitic lime if magnesium is also needed
Apply wood ash sparingly
Use crushed oyster shells or limestone
Mix in compost made from alkaline materials
Reduce use of acid-forming fertilizers
Test soil pH before and after amendments
Work amendments into the topsoil
Water normally after application
Recheck pH periodically and reapply as needed
