Ensure the burette is vertical and the liquid level is steady
Read the bottom of the meniscus for clear solutions
For dark or opaque solutions, read the top of the meniscus if appropriate
Position your eye at the same height as the meniscus
Avoid looking from above or below to prevent parallax error
Read the scale at the liquid level
Record the reading to two decimal places if possible
Note that burette scales increase downward from 0 at the top
Take the initial reading before titration
Take the final reading after titration
Subtract initial reading from final reading to get the volume delivered
