Mine wood logs from trees
Open a crafting table
Place 1 wood log in the center of the crafting grid
Place 1 fuel item in the bottom slot of the furnace
Put the wood log in the top slot of the furnace
Wait for the smelting to finish
Collect the charcoal from the furnace output slot
