Wash your hands
Clean the blister gently with soap and water
Pat the area completely dry
Do not pop an intact blister
Apply a hydrocolloid blister bandage
If no hydrocolloid bandage is available, use a sterile nonstick pad
Add a thin layer of petroleum jelly before covering if the skin is open
Pad the blister with moleskin or a donut-shaped cushion to reduce pressure
Wear loose, breathable socks
Avoid tight shoes or high-friction activity overnight
Keep the foot elevated while resting
If the blister has burst, leave the skin flap in place
Apply an antibiotic ointment only if the skin is open and you are not allergic
Change the dressing if it becomes wet, dirty, or loose
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed and safe for you
Seek medical care if there is increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pus, fever, or severe pain
