Park on level ground and turn off the engine
Wait a few minutes for oil to settle
Open the hood and locate the dipstick
Pull the dipstick out completely
Wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth or paper towel
Reinsert the dipstick fully
Pull it out again
Check where the oil mark reaches on the stick
Read the level between the minimum and maximum marks
Add oil if the level is below the minimum mark
Check the oil color and consistency for signs of contamination
Repeat if needed to confirm the reading
