Sit down and rest quietly
Loosen tight clothing
Take slow, deep breaths
Breathe in through the nose for 4 seconds
Exhale slowly through the mouth for 6 to 8 seconds
Avoid standing up quickly
Drink a glass of water if you are not on fluid restriction
Avoid caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and exercise
Keep the room cool and calm
Recheck your blood pressure after 5 to 10 minutes
Take your prescribed blood pressure medicine exactly as directed
Do not take extra doses unless a doctor told you to
Call emergency services if you have chest pain, severe headache, shortness of breath, weakness, confusion, vision changes, or BP is 180/120 or higher with symptoms
