Check local laws and regulations before attempting any propane transfer
Use only an approved, refillable propane cylinder
Inspect the tank for rust, dents, damage, or expired certification
Make sure the tank valve is closed
Move the tank outdoors to a well-ventilated area away from flames, sparks, and heat
Wear gloves and eye protection
Use a proper propane transfer setup designed for cylinder refilling
Weigh the empty tank and note its tare weight
Chill the receiving tank if required by the transfer method
Connect the cylinders securely according to the approved equipment instructions
Invert the source cylinder only if the transfer method specifically requires it
Open valves slowly and allow propane to transfer by weight
Monitor the tank weight and stop when it reaches the correct fill level
Do not overfill the tank
Close all valves completely
Disconnect the equipment carefully
Check for leaks using a leak-detection solution
Store the tank upright in a cool, ventilated place
If you are unsure, have a licensed propane supplier refill it for you
