Rinse with warm salt water
Take over-the-counter pain relievers as directed
Apply a cold compress to the outside of the cheek
Avoid hard, crunchy, or chewy foods
Chew on the opposite side of the mouth
Keep the area clean by brushing gently
Floss carefully around the tooth
Use an oral numbing gel if appropriate
Avoid smoking and alcohol
Sleep with your head elevated
Drink plenty of water
See a dentist if pain is severe, persistent, or worsening
