Wear gloves and eye protection
Turn off and unplug the device
Remove the battery compartment cover
Avoid touching the corroded material with bare skin
Gently remove loose batteries
Use plastic or wooden tools if batteries are stuck
Place removed batteries in a sealed plastic bag
Clean the compartment with a dry brush or cloth
For alkaline battery corrosion, use a small amount of white vinegar on a cotton swab
For acid battery corrosion, use a small amount of baking soda solution on a cotton swab
Wipe away residue with a clean damp cloth
Dry the compartment completely
Dispose of damaged batteries according to local hazardous waste rules
Wash hands after handling
Replace with fresh batteries only after the compartment is fully dry
